Officials of Compostela, Cebu, Awed by Agserbi 24/7 Activities
Lakbay-aral, to government officials, is a privilege to see other places and observe best practices that they would be able to apply in their localities. The activity also strengthens the bond and promotes interaction among them.
On October 7, 2015, the government officials of the Municipality of Compostela, Cebu, had their Lakbay-Aral in Laoag City. It was spearheaded by their Mayor, Hon. Joel P. Quino, the Vice Mayor, the Sangguniang Bayan members, Department Heads, Barangay Chairmen, and their Parish Priest. It was the first time in the history of a Lakbay- Aral group visiting the city that their Parish Priest was brought along! It was a genuine example of coordination, not separation, of the Church and the State!
The courtesy call was held at Barangay Barit, Laoag City, the venue of the Agserbi 24/7, because the Mayor took the opportunity for the visitors to witness first-hand the activities of the outreach program. The traditional singing of the “padapada kam” as a way of giving tribute to the senior citizens of the barangay whose birth months fall in October, was gladly presented by the City Social Welfare and Development Office together with the “Walang Iwanan” singers. The mother of the city, Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas, ABC President Mikee V. Fariñas, and the Laoag City Councilors, together with their counterparts from Compostela, participated in the crowning and giving of flowers to the celebrators.
Words of praise and appreciation were given to Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas as she welcomed everyone with a hand shake, some saying she is beautiful, others swearing she looks so young like a teleserye artist. She gave a simple speech and introduced all the Government officials present. Mayor Quiño in turn gave his simple word of thanks for the warm welcome, saying that he will save the good memories and experiences here in Laoag City and will share it to his constituents in their municipality.
It was their busy and hectic schedule that prodded our visitors from Compostela, Cebu to continue with their Lakbay-Aral in Laoag. They would still be visiting historical and heritage sites in the Ilocos provinces (Norte and Sur) before flying back home. But this early in their tour, they are confident that they will be enjoying the rest of their itinerary.
Mabuhay and have a safe and happy tour!
