Pamulinawen Fest Preparation in Full Swing
Preparations for this year’s Pamulinawen Festival is in full swing.
Fiesta committee over-all coordinator Lilian Abijero said the different committees are now busy in their respective assigned tasks for the month-long duration of the city fiesta.
According to Ms. Abijero, Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas began meeting the different committees late last year. She added that during the meetings, the 2015 fiesta was reviewed. As a result, several activities were institutionalized and other activities were added. This year’s fiesta, Ms. Abijero disclosed, will feature only two balikbayan nights – the Laoag City Circle of Hawaii and the Kalayaan International Philippines Hawaii. The Ilocos Times learned that other balikbayan groups including the United Laoageños of Hawaii and the Ilocos Nortenian Associations (INA) will be joining next year’s fiesta. The Kalayaan Night, however, has an innovation, in which both men and women will be crowned. The thanksgiving mass which is usually done during the Feast Day of Saint William the Hermit on February 10 was reset earlier to February 9, as February 10 will be Ash Wednesday. Other major activities for this year’s fiesta will still include the Street Dance Showdown and the Search for the Miss Laoag 2016. Reacting to this, Mayor Fariñas invited everyone to join the yearly Pamulinawen Festival Celebration. The Mayor said that this year’s theme, “Blessed”, coincides with the continuing blessings the city receives.
She added that after 50 years of existence as a city, Laoag has been known to be one of the best cities in the entire country. This is the reason why Laoag and Ilocos Norte are known be one of the best tourist-destinations in the country. The theme depicts what Laoag was, and its transformation now that it became a “magnificent Laoag”, not only of the place but the people as well, through its continuous innovations and creations.
