A joint Celebration of the 118th Independence Day
The City of Laoag and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte celebrated the 118th Philippine Independence Day through a joint flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies in front of the Provincial Capitol on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Local government officials spearheaded by Vice-Governor Angelo Barba, together with Laoag City Mayor Chevylle V Farinas and employees of the two LGUs, joined the members of the Philippine National Police in the activities.
This year’s Independence Day theme, “Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong”, is trying to say that our celebration of our freedom is a powerful reminder of the true measure of our strength as a country, how we can courageously seize the struggles together as one people, passionately driven by a shared vision of greatness.
After the said Flag-Raising Ceremony, the Provincial Government also conducted a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the sacrifices, bravery, and determination of our Philippine Heroes in order for us to live freely and with dignity. City Mayor Chevylle V. Farinas led the morning ceremonies and gave her speech or thoughts regarding Independence Day, after which different activities followed as part of the commemoration Ceremonies.
The Independence Day truly inspired us Ilocanos to keep on walking the path of our heroes. Against every difficulty, we have always come together as a people, unified by our selfless love for the Philippines, and the strong sense of duty to our fellow Filipinos.
