Laoag City Acquires New Heavy Equipment, PNP Vehicle
The Laoag City Government has acquired a new heavy-duty hydraulic excavator and one pay loader for the exclusive use in the expanded sanitary landfill at barangay Lagui-Sail, Laoag City, and a Toyota pick-up for the use of the Philippine National Police Laoag Station. Another earth mover (bulldozer) is set to arrive this week.
These acquisitions reflect the seriousness and the commitment of the City Government in resolving the problem at the old sanitary landfill that somehow degraded the confidence of the barangay folks at Lagui-Sail with the administration of Mayor Chevylle Fariñas.
It must be recalled that a series of dialogues among special agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region I, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region I, key Departments of the City, GLEDCO( PPP partner of the City), members of the Media, and the people of barangay Lagui-Sail, were conducted with the end in view of threshing out problems in the waste disposal program of the city government. Ultimately, the City Government, in partnership with the Government of Laoag Employees Development Cooperative (GLEDCO), was given another chance to improve its garbage collection and waste disposal system.
The newly acquired heavy equipment, and one brand new Hilux pick-up truck for the use of the Laoag City PNP under Supt. Edwin C. Balles, were inaugurated and blessed by Father Ambrose Emeric Monroy of the Diocese of Laoag during last Monday’s regular flag raising ceremony.
