Solid North Tupig Cook-off Competition 2016

This year’s “tupig cook-off” was conducted in Dingras Ilocos Norte (in front of the Catholic Church) last December 16, 2016 participated in by thirteen (13) municipalities: San Nicolas, Sarrat, Adams, Paoay, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Dingras, Solsona, Currimao, Badoc, Marcos, Nueva Era and  Laoag City.

The contestants from Laoag City were husband and wife tandem Nelson and Juliana Cadigoy, and her mother Consorsia Garganta who was the original tupig magnate of Barangay 55-B Salet Bulangon, Laoag City. Nelson, is a farmer, and Juling (short for Juliana)  is involved in marketing their off- farm produce (tupig) and other native delicacies.

During open market days in the City of Laoag (Wednesdays and Sundays), she occupies a stall in front of the Rusty Lopez Shoe store and during other days, she caters to orders from various customers. Minimum order for them to cook tupig is worth Php 500.00. When the orders are too great, they seek the assistance of Juling’s mother and other family members.

Winning this year’s tupig cook-off (Champion) again influenced husband and wife Nelson and Juling not to drop this business but rather to improve and widen their scope. Receiving a cash prize of fifteen thousand pesos (₱ 15,000.00) and a plaque of recognition make them proud of what they are.
