Laoag City bags award for “Initiative for Alternative Technologies”
The Laoag City government was awarded as one of the LGUs in Region I with the “Initiative for Alternative Technologies” in the recently held awarding ceremonies of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Environmental Management Bureau“ Region I, Solid Waste Management Summit, at the Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union on June 27, 2017.
Subsequently, the Government of Laoag Employees Development Cooperative (GLEDCO) was awarded with the “Best Environmental Partner (Private)”, with its partnership with the Laoag City Government in its Solid Waste Management Program.
It was the second Region I Ecological Waste Management Summit with the theme, “Connecting People to Nature Through Integrated Solid Waste Management”, with none other than the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) Region I Director, Ma. Victoria V. Abrera delivering the inspirational message, and the Honorable Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega, Governor of the Province of La Union, as the Guest Speaker. Engineer Eligio T. Ildefonso, Executive Director of the National Waste Management Commission, reminded all LGUs with their compliance with RA 9003 and for possible assistance by the EMB.
It was a jam-packed function hall with all the officials of the winning LGUs attending the occasion, from Mayors, Vice Mayors, Council members, Engineers, and other focal persons. The occasion started with a welcome message from the host-town’s Mayor (Bauang), Hon. Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III. DENR Region I Director Paquito T. Moreno, Jr. together with EMB-I Director Ma. Victoria V. Abrera, and EMED Chief Engr. Antonio Estrada handed over the awards to the winners.
The categories included the Best Sanitary Landfill, City and Municipal levels, Most Active Provincial Solid Waste Management Board, Implementer of Clustered MRF, LGU Compliant to RA 9003, Sustainable MRF, Active Environmental and Natural Resources Officer (ENROs), Implementer of Solid Waste Management Ordinances, Implementer of Solid Waste Management in Public Market, Implementer of “No Plastic Policy”, Sustainable Composting Facility, Most Active Provincial Solid Waste Management Coordinator, Active Community Relations Officer, Initiative for Alternative Technologies, and Best Environmental Partner.
