LGU-Laoag City Conducts Skills Development Training
The Local Government of Laoag City, thru the City Agriculturist’s Office, conducted Skills Development Training on the Operation and Maintenance of Big Agricultural Machineries for Farmer Leaders on August 29-31, 2017 at the City Agriculturist’s Office, Brgy. 54-B Camanggaan, Laoag City. The three-day activity benefited 31 farmer leaders and/or machinery and equipment operators from the various farmers’ associations (FAs) of Laoag City. In collaboration with the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 1, the training aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the participants on the operation and maintenance of big agricultural rice machineries.
Topics emphasizing farm occupational health and safety, and rice machinery and equipment operations using four-wheel tractor, rice Transplanter and combined harvester, were given by the resource speakers and agricultural engineers from the City Agriculturist’s Office. To reinforce the lecture-discussion, the participants were given the opportunity to do actual identification and familiarization of parts and tasked to operate 4-wheel tractor, rice Trans planter, and combined harvester in the field.
In her keynote message, Hon. Chevylle V. Fariñas, City Mayor, expressed her strong affirmation to the need of such skills development training as this will help the participants in becoming more responsible machinery and equipment operators for better productivity and sustainability.
Dir. Lucrecio R. Alviar Jr, Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 1, informed that Laoag City is the first among Local Government Unuts (LGUs) in Region 1 to implement this kind of training after the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 1, TESDA, and Pampanga State Agricultural University conducted the same training for Agricultural Extension Workers in June, 2017.
The training was facilitated by the members of the City Agricultural Engineering Group with Engr. Joefray A. Salvador, Farm Mechanization Coordinator, serving as lead facilitator and resource speaker.
