AGRICULTURAL GAWAD SAKA ACHIEVERS
Laoag City bagged two (2) Regional Competitions in different contestable Categories in this year’s (2017) Regional Gawad Saka Achievers Search. The Awarding Ceremony was held at Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives at Caoayan Ilocos Sur last September 29, 2017.
Mr. & Mrs. Dominador Ignacio and Family from Brgy. Navotas B were adjudged as the Regional Outstanding Farm Family with Ms. Lisette Pearl C. Pan, Agricultural Technologist, as the Talent Scout. At the same time Ms. Justina C. Sacro, Agricultural Technologist, was awarded the Regional Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker, with Ms. Josephine C. Aldeon, Agriculturist II, as the Talent Scout. Each awardee received a trophy, certificate of recognition, and cash prize. Hon. City Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for her all out support, together with Mrs. Marilyne Martin, City Agriculturist.
The Gawad Saka Search is the Department of Agriculture’s annual undertaking, in cooperation with the Local Government Units, other government institutions, Non-Government Organizations, and the private sector which provide due recognition to farmers, fisherfolk and peoples groups whose exemplary contributions to the agricultural development of the country serve as an inspiration to others.
The awardees were presented after the Flag Raising ceremony last October 2, 2017 witnessed by the Hon. City Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas, Sangguniang Panlungsod Members and Committee Chairman on Agriculture Hon. Ferdinand Domingo, and all Department Heads of the City Government.
Another activity after the Flag Raising ceremony on October 2, 2017, was the induction of the newly elected Officers of the Laoag City Mango Growers Association, administered by the Hon. City Mayor Chevylle V.Fariñas.

A strong partnership with this group of stakeholders will improve the mango industry in Laoag City.
In its desire to boost Agricultural and Fishery production to attain food sufficiency in Laoag City, the City Government, through the Office of the City Agriculturist, distributed Forty Nine (49) bags of inorganic fertilizers and 25 bags of Yellow Corn to the different Barangay Agricultural & Fishery Council (BAFC) Chairmen of the agricultural farming barangays. In addition to this, raincoats and boots were distributed to the Barangay Fishery & Aquatic Resources Management Council (BFARMC) Chairmen from the coastal barangays.
