Ambassador Johnny Lumintang of Indonesia visits Laoag

The Laoag City government, under the leadership of Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas, recently welcomed His Excellency Johnny J. Lumintang, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Philippines at the Laoag City conference room on October 24, 2017.

Mayor Fariñas, together with the Department Heads and their Assistants, hosted a mid-morning snacks for the Ambassador and his party consisting of native delicacies like “pancit, tupig, tinudok, palitaw, at puto”, all made out of flour and coconut meat. A short audio-visual presentation of the sights and sceneries of Laoag city was being played while the royal guests were enjoying their merienda.

In his short but meaningful speech, Ambassador Lumintang praised the Mayor for her approachability and friendliness, and the similarity of Indonesians and Filipinos, especially Laoagueños. He considered the offer of the Mayor for a possible sisterhood with Jakarta and offered to work out the idea even if his term will already end in December this year.

Mayor Fariñas also extended an invitation to the septuagenarian former Lt. General to be one of the Guests of Honour in the Pamulinawen Festival this coming February 2018, but the Ambassador could not commit himself. The Mayor, nevertheless, assured him of the same warm reception if he comes back to the city in his personal capacity together with his family.

Ambassador Lumintang was awed by the potential of the Laoag sand dunes as a tourist destination, as he was quick to appreciate the 4×4 adventure and the sand-boarding experience. At lunch, they were served with authentic Ilocano cuisine at La Preciosa Restaurant where he and his party really had a wonderful gastronomic experience.
