FESTIVITIES IN LAOAG CITY

Tourism has become a major economic driver of Laoag City, paving the way for new commercial investments and infrastructure development. Laoag City, aside from being the capital of the province and the central hub for trading, it is also the merging point and jump-off location to other tourist destinations in Ilocos Norte. It is where bus stations, jeep and van terminals going to other municipalities of the province are located. Some places of interest include a tour of heritage sites featuring Spanish colonial buildings, baroque churches, La Paz Sand Dunes, white-sand beach resorts of Pagudpud, and Marcos-era mansions.

Pamulinawen Festival

The Pamulinawen Festival is held every first week of the February. The festival corresponds with the Feast Day of Saint William the Hermit, which is the city’s Patron Saint. It started from a simple celebration of the Feast Day of Saint William, then it has grown into a more spectacular festival featuring the culture and heritage of the city through a variety of social-civic activities, civic-military parade, a parade of floats, and its centerpiece, the Street Dancing Competition. It includes the Dulang Food Festival, Calesa Festival, and Miss Laoag Pamulinawen Festival Beauty Pageant, among others.

Pamulinawen Street Pageantry

Laoag City’s Street Dance Parade is celebrated during the Pamulinawen Festival. Participants come from the different schools, barangays and performing groups in the city. Contenders compete and parade along Rizal Street ending at the Ilocos Norte Capitol where they give their final performances. Thousands of locals, tourists and spectators witness the parade , the highlight of the Pamulinawen Festival.

The participants showcase the culture and colors of their respective groups with their outfits and props. Laoag City celebrates the festival the whole month of February, accommodating various social-civic activities and events.
