City Government Spearheads Sentinelling to ASF-Affected Raisers
The city government through Mayor Michael Marcos Keon distributed sentinel pigs, starter and grower feed, and vitamins to 75 ASF-affected livestock raisers on October 27, 2022, at the City Agriculture Compound in Brgy. 54-B Camangaan. Each of the 75 recipients received 3 piglets, 9 bags of feeds ad 7 sachets of vitamins.
Sentineling is the introduction of piglets to a previously ASF-infected area. After 40 days, the pigs that were distributed will be tested again as a way to determine if that particular area is still infected. If tested negative then the sentinel pigs will now be the livelihood of the raisers. This process is needed to upgrade the city’s current status from pink to the yellow zone.
Also present during the distribution were Mr. Charles Belisario and Mr. Rick Francis Reyno Reyno of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 and Mr. Mark Patrick Cortez of the Provincial Veterinary Office. I would also like to acknowledge our suppliers Mr. Teocilo Cabreros, Mr. Lemuel Cabreros and Mr. Ryan Erom.
