LAOAG CITY GOVERNMENT COMMEMORATES ITS 56TH YEAR OF EXISTENCE
NEWSFLASH: The Laoag City Government under Mayor Michael Marcos Keon celebrated its 56th year of its cityhood on June 19, 2021, which started with a wreath-laying purposely to give honor and recognition to the late Congressmen Simeon Valdez & Antonio Raquiza who initiated the pertinent bill together with then Senate President, the late Ferdinand Edralin Marcos who made it possible for the cityhood of Laoag, to the first Mayor and Vice-Mayor, the late Eulalio Siazon and Isidro Madamba, respectively, and all those past city officials.
Concurrent with the charter celebration is the first-ever Marunggay Festival in the country where a cookfest and skills training seminar were conducted. The birth of the festival precipitated from the passing of ordinance primarily sponsored by Hon. Handy Lao, the same having been inspired from Senator Imee Marcos’ Imeemalunggay Project that encourages planting of marunggay in every Filipino household considering the numerous health benefits of marunggay.
Also highlighting the event was the awarding of winners in the Search for 2021 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards where Brgy. 3 NSD Rosario under Kapitan Suzanne Bueno emerged as the Champion while Brgy. 1 San Lorenzo under Kapitan Melvyn Santos rose as a runner-up.
Also part and parcel of the event is the awarding of winners in the first-ever 2021 Best Performing Barangays dubbed as Masigasig, Mapagkakatiwalaan at Matapat para sa Kaunlaran where Barangays 1 and 3 equally bagged the top spot. The occasion was graced by Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, Vice-Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Franklin Dante Respicio, Portia Salenda, Saul Lazo & Donald Nicolas, Vice-Mayor Vicentito Lazo, Sangguniang Panlungsod members Juan Conrado Respicio, Rbee Ablan, Jaybee Baquiran, Edison Chua, Jayson Perera, Derick Lao, Mikee Farinas, Fhaye Lao & Handy Lao, City DILG Officer Janet Duarte, department heads and employees of the city government and representatives from the national government agencies.
